I've enjoyed night sailing in familiar waters, and still do now and then. These days when I sail at night, it's to enjoy a full moon or holiday fireworks. But I plan for it, and try to stay away from the swarms. I also time my departure so that most of the speed racer types are gone before I get und...

Ken, I use a Therm-A-Rest self inflating mattress that fits perfectly on #6's cockpit sole, and a boom tent. It works fine, and is very roomy. It's going to get a workout this year, as Dan Phy and I are about to do the Land Between the Lakes trip, and then will do about 225 nm along the gulf coast.

The EC, a 300 mile or so event, is into its second day. The start was yesterday morning at Fort Desoto, on Tampa Bay. As of about an hour ago, 76 entrants had passed through the first checkpoint, and 15 had yet to check in. The first leg is 62 nm, with the second 72 on down the gulf coast. A few boa...

I should add that # 6 has been towed better than 5,000 miles now, and my preference is to use the crutch and secure the spars over the veranda. It looks like she'll get close to 4,000 road miles this year, so I want to go with the most comfortable and secure arrangement.

For longer trips, a crutch was used at the transom, and the spars rode over the veranda top. The crutch craked, and must be replaced or repaired, so on the last trip, they rode in the starboard forward compartment, up and out over the transom.

Savor that build, Ken. I can help you finish the bottom in about two weeks, since this week we're headed to Homestead, boatlessly. Dan and I plan to leave Apalchicola on or about April 21, and be in Cedar Key around the 2nd or 3rd. The CK get-together starts is that weekend, too. We won't be around ...
