Jason,

Excellent details and write up. Thank you for sharing. I'm really anxious to see how this looks and mounts to the back of your Scamp. I assume you'll be mounting it on the Port side. Again, thanks for sharing.

Groetjes!

I have my motor mount doubler on the port side ( I will be mounting the motor-mount base plate seen on Gig Harbor Scamps, that allows one to remove the motor mount when not in use). The boarding ladder will be mounted on the starboard side of the transom, I have had success with this arrangement on my current boat, shown below. Got the first coat of primer on the hull overnight!

Looking good Jason. Which removable outboard motor mount did you go with? I am looking at Garelick and they look pretty good.

Hi,

I went with Garelick Aluminum Motor Mount 71040 and Garelick Motor Mount Adapter Plate 71053. Still deciding on which motor to go with, gas, electric, propane...

Boarding ladder is done, except for the small detail of non-slip tape, which I plan to apply to the rungs, later.

Beautiful work on the boarding ladder, Jason. I am trying to figure out the three circles on the legs are. I am assuming there is a fourth that I can't see. Looks like they were drilled and filled with something.

Hola Jhippe,

Those are C360 bronze, 3/4" diameter cross-dowel-nuts. I drilled and tapped threads into them for 1/4" mounting bolts, which will be through-bolted through a 3/4" thick reinforcing strip, then through the transom, then into those bronze cross-dowel-nuts. There are two of them per side of the ladder.

Ahoy,

I have the hull and fillets all sanded and faired to the point that I'm in my happy place, so I am going ahead with painting. The bow and transom have 6 coats of Epifanes Gloss varnish on top of the 3 coats of epoxy. The bottom has 3 coats of primer and now will get 3 coats of Pettit EZPoxy and I am mixing in the Pettit 3021 Performance Enhancer also. I taped off the bow and transom (end-grains of planks at the bow and stern will be painted not varnished), and also taped off the stripe that will be painted just below P1. I was worried that I might have to apply extra coats due to my dark paint being painted over white primer, but check out the photos below after just one coat of paint over the primer. This is a thin coat also, but the color coverage was excellent.

Hej Vänner!

Thanks as always for the encouragement. The first two hull colors (or three if you count the varnish) are done, and I have now taped-off and begun painting the stripe with Pettit "Fighting Lady Yellow". 5/8" thick UHMW skeg caps are now screwed into the white oak skegs, with big stainless screws every 6". The skegs are bedded in 3M4200....I don't imagine it will stick that well to the UHMW, but I still want it in there to fill and seal and little voids. With work and kid activities I have not put many hours in this month, but I will be quite close to having the boat done in my 1.5-2year estimated timeframe.
