great news Paul and Johnny!

a second Sage 17 will be joining the group. her owner heard about SCAMP-fest and has arranged to pick her up and 'get the boat wet' for the first time at the event.

I'm excited too. And since Front Range Island Owners are also holding a sailing event at the same time, I'd like to suggest a brief rendezvous because of the amazing photo that could be made (a study in contrasts). A SCAMP and a Hobie Mirage Island boat could not be more different but have stability in common. To see what a Hobie Mirage Tandem Island boat looks like, click here. To image what a joint photo would look like in the middle of an Island boat formation, click here. To those SCAMP owners attending, please comment on your willingness to rendezvous. Thanks.

In case anyone missed it. SCAMP #5 now resides in Aurora, Colorado. I believe that makes one completed #24, and #82 and #5 at well over 50% complete and a plan bought in Evergreen. Also nearby in Wyoming there is an order for a Fiberglass SCAMP. SCAMP-fest (Lake Dillon Weekend of Aug 10-12) will have at least one SCAMP this year but possibly as many as four next Summer. Regarding #5, Mike Monies' superior craftsmanship is clearly evident throughout the 80%-finished boat. Paul Breeding was here today and we "triaged" the project. Lamentably we are in full-blown Monsoon season with rain starting every day around noon. The boat is under a large tarp with a strap from the top of the Cuddy cabin to the Stern causing the tarp to tent and shed rain. However, supplies have been bought to primer and paint the interior Cuddy-Cabin area that will begin in the morning.

Paul Breedling and myself will get their Friday in time to get in the water and sail a bit. We will then be sharing (he's in his Pea Pen 14) slip E-38. We will likely do happy hour and something to eat at the Tiki bar there at the yacht club. Anybody, please feel free to join us. SCAMP #24 is light green and ketch rigged. No plans yet for Sat.??? I suggest we end the day back at the open air bar (which overlooks the marina). I'll bring some apps. We will be pulling out sometime on Sunday. My cell# is 970 846-4624. Johnny Walker

I will be up there with the Front Range Island Owners starting around 11 AM on Sunday. I am hearing that there is more water at the Dillon Ramp than at Frisco. I guess we will look for a couple of Sage 17s, a Peep Hen and a Ketch-rigged SCAMP sailing merrily along unless some of you have departed already. The larger Hobies may have to put in at Dillon due to ramp conditions. I"ll get an update on that midweek next week. If so, we will sail over to Frisco to join other FRIO folks. Interestingly the Hobie boats have been advised to "uncork" their outriggers on the way up to Dillon and on the way back down due the atmospheric pressure differences and the pressures both negative and positive that could occur inside them. Sounds like SCAMP_Fest could grow in time. Next year, I hope to see 4 SCAMPs my own included and the Fiberglass model from up in Wyoming. Perhaps it would be 5 if Mike & Jackie Monies can bring Red SCAMP (#4) too. Those two boats (#4 & #5) are kissing cousins. Essentially built by the same person for the most part simultaneously and will be the same color "Safety Red." Maybe we can talk Josh into bringing #1 up to the high country. That would make 6.
