Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the encouragement. I am mounting hardware now, and I had earlier advised that I would post how I fit my Davey & Co. pintles on the rudder stock. My rudder stock was thicker than the opening of the pintles, so I cut in recesses and wound up with a nice snug fit. I cut in the recesses, pre-drilled the screw-holes, painted the recesses, and then bedded the pintles in 3M 4200 and secured with silicon bronze screws.

Nice work on your build Jason. Although the end is near, somehow builders never get there. Kind of like the infinity thing :-)

You have a good point regarding the apparent eternity to actually get to the finish line on these boats. As for me ,my January work schedule combined with below average temperatures here, has delayed my progress. That said, I do think I will be in good shape for a spring 2018 Launch.

Hej allihopa,

Been a while since I posted, and in the meantime I have all the hardware mounted on the boat, which is really more photos than I can post here, but they are on my site. The rub-rail put up a surprise fight but is on now. Looking forward to a spring launch, and the hot sun here today feels more like June than February, which has me thinking about splashing a hull in the water.

Howdy Y'all,

The boat ventured out of the garage shop today, and the mast was stepped for the first time. I needed to file down the mast blocks a bit in order for them to fit, so I will need to refinish the spots that I filed down. Upon stepping the mast I noticed that I had the mast-top-block on the port-side, so I re-lashed that over to the starboard side of the mast today. I was also able to see the boat paint colors in the real sunlight.

Jason,

Congratulations on completing your Scamp. You did a really nice job on this build-- something you can be very proud of. How to met you some day at a rally.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks again for the feedback and positive commenatary over these past +2 years of building the Argo. I have some rigging and lacing of the sail to do and a motor to pick out and then she will go in the water after the ice comes off. I also have installed the nav lights which I will post about here when I get around to it; I really like the Navisafe lights I found. Here’s a photo from last week on the lake we mostly sail on. The ice will be off in April but the water will still be frigid. That said, Lake Michigan is open now, so I could take the survival suit and hit the surf now. More likely I will launch her in May.

Brent, as you mention, it would be fun to meet the rest of you wily scampers at an event or rally somewhere. The Great Lakes are my home turf, but I would love to sail so many other farther-flung destinations. I need to research the best ways to move a Scamp from the Midwest to the coasts....on her own trailer , or on a flatbed? First, I need to splash her and make sure she floats.
