Yellowstone "Raid"?

Post by Johnny Walker »

A few of us SCAMPers (mainly Paul Breeding #86 and myself with #24) have been brainstorming the idea of a Yellowstone gathering next August or September. Its 10 hours from our Colorado locations and can be gorgeous. This event should have no name, nothing official, and little organization. We propose the dates of August 17th thru the 21st (which nicely overlaps with a Wyoming solar exclipse). We'd camp or stay near the lake and beach the boats. All forms of sailing craft would be welcome to join us. If there is interest I will have more camping details with the next post. Johnny Walker.
PS - I need to test out this winter's improvements to ketch-rigged #24 with other standard rigged SCAMPs but, one of these years I'll get to Port Townsend.

Our Yellowstone raid has now been detoured a bit south to Jackson Lake at Grand Teton Nat. Park to begin on Aug. 24th (after the eclipse and associated crowds). We'll be camping in a tent cabin near Coulter Bay. More details available if anyone would like to join us for this informal gathering. Johnny Walker

That looks like an amazing location! Any options for staying in an RV?

Yes, Coulter Bay is a big campground facility. I will be in a small RV, as well, but parking at the tent cabin with Paul Breeding. Google it and you'll find plenty of info. Where would you be coming from? And with what sort of craft? Johnny

I could make this Raid. I would be bringing my Skiff America 20 named Northern Cross. I live just 2 hours from this location.

Great. Paul Breeding (Scamp builder) will be there and he built a SKIFF America a while back and sold it a few years ago. And will you be camping? You can reach me at <johnnywalkertipi@gmail.com> J

Johnny, I will probably be staying in an RV or on Northern Cross. Are you all making reservations somewhere?

Yes. Paul and I have rented a tent/cabin for 5 nights from Thu. the 24th to the following Monday. You can see it on the map. RV and tent sites and a hotel are all near by, not to far from the bay. Now that our "raid" is growing we'll come up with some plans just for fun. Probably some good food (and drink) in the mix! Paul is a single guy and I'll be joined by my wife, Gigi.

Thanks Johnny and Paul,

I've just made reservations at Colter bay. Looking forward to seeing you guys and checking out your boats. It'll be tons of fun. I'll have my newly finished Skiff America 20 with me.

Best,
Brent

Paul B. and I will put together more details this New Year's Eve as he and I will celebrate his new (day old) knee. Count on "5 o'clock Happy Hour," Aug. 24th outside our tent cabin. Look for SCAMPS! Johnny
