And my trailer just arrived!

I immediately cut off the front of the trailer tongue along with some wires. Now I know how to make a waterproof butt splice, and I will probably never again use that butt splice knowledge.

It’s gonna be a tight squeeze height and length wise, but the swing tongue will help it fit in my little garage.

More sewing projects:

I made the sail cover for long highway hauls (I’m planning a trip to the Georgia Bay in a couple of weeks). It has openings so it can be put on while on the boat in lazy jacks.

I happy with it so far. I doused it with water and not a drop came through, but will see how it works in the real world soon.

Thanks Brent and Rob. Just a few more things to do in prep for a trip to the North Country. I’m planning to cruise the northern shore of the Georgian Bay and a bit of the North Channel if there’s time (late July, early August). It’d be great to run into another SCAMP up there if any in the area...

It sails great!!! Seems quick and nimble. If I pinched it I could sail 45 deg off at around 3 kts or a bit more, and 4-5 kts off the wind blowing at maybe 8-10, full sail up, no waves though.

I’ll try to keep reporting on how some of the things I did to SCAMP worked out...

First, Venturi bailers in the sumps...they work! And start gurgling and sucking at just about 3 kts. The Sea Sure super sucker bailers I used don’t have a backwash flap so they act like an open drain when not moving and water eventually equalizes with the outside water when not moving, but noticibly faster when moving, and they suck the sumps dry. I was worried they might leak, but I don’t think they do, and even when I stand near the transom with them open (not moving), water doesn’t rise in the sumps more than the sole height anyway (no water comes in when moving). I was happy about that.

Gluing uhmwpe runners on Skegs with g-flex epoxy and flame treatment: so far, so good and they have experienced some extreme temps in my low tech garage - from the teens to the 90’s and above. We’ll see long term how they hold up.

I’ve had SCAMP out a few times now and these shock cord sail bundle keepers work really well. I based mine off of the ones Simeon posted; these really help when rigging/unrigging the boat too as they keep the yard and boom together.

Eric, Can you please provide layout and parts information on your shock cord sail bungie keeper system? This looks like a time saver and great organizational piece. I'd like to copy your system on Hagoth.

Green arrows = Two eye straps that divide the boom into thirds (roughly)
Blue arrows = tie down points
That bunched up white strap along the sheer next to anchor rode is a re-entry sling with shock cord inside to keep it tidy (works well - thanks Howard Rice)

Three hooks - one for each third. I like these kind because they are small but easy to hook. I bought them at the local sailing shop, but they kind of look like these maybe:

You could knot the shock cord before and after each hook too so they are easier to locate but I didn’t.
