New Mrk II Scamp Kit
Have you heard the news? There's a new Mrk II Scamp kit out. I've blogged about this new kit here:

My order has been placed. Looking forward to building this new version of Scamp.

Re: New Mrk II Scamp Kit
Thanks for letting us know about this, Brent. So, there are going to be three changes:
1. Bulkhead #4 will be widened. Does that mean that the outline of BH4 will remain the same but the opening will be made similar to that of Southern Cross?
2. Seat width will be increased by one inch (~25 mm). Will this affect to the shapes of bulkheads 4, 5, 6 and 7 too?
3. Footwell will be included. This seems to be a popular and sensible mod.
I'm wondering if the plans and the manual will be updated too, and if there will be an update available for Mk I plans owners.
My BH4 is drawn on plywood but still uncut. Plan to do that in the weekend, so it's still possible to make changes, if the narrower opening looks more attractive...
Will there be an official announcement about Mk II coming?

Timo, Please see my comments within your original text below in Red.

1. Bulkhead #4 will be widened. Does that mean that the outline of BH4 will remain the same but the opening will be made similar to that of Southern Cross? Yes, the outside dimensions shall all remain the same. Only the inside shape will be different. Now you have choices, you can either cut the bulkhead inside shape to match that of the existing shape, or you can leave it narrower, like Southern Cross.
2. Seat width will be increased by one inch (~25 mm). Will this affect to the shapes of bulkheads 4, 5, 6 and 7 too? No, the 1" extension will be made to the inside width of the seat top, not the outside edge, hence all other bulkhead shapes and seat longitudinals will remain identical.
3. Footwell will be included. This seems to be a popular and sensible mod.
I'm wondering if the plans and the manual will be updated too, and if there will be an update available for Mk I plans owners. This question will need to be answered by SCA.

Re: New Mrk II Scamp Kit
Interesting news. I was just drawing out Bulkhead 4 today. Will go back and modify the opening to make it smaller as I like the idea of a bit more shelter since I sail on Lake Superior.
I will probably also follow suit and make the seats wider.

Re: New Mrk II Scamp Kit
I'll make BH4 to follow Southern Cross like shape first. If that doesn't feel or look right, it shouldn't be an issue to cut more to get the standard Mk I shape. The other way around would be far trickier...

Re: New Mrk II Scamp Kit
Hello All
The changes depicted above are all correct in description. The bulkheads make sense for a couple of reasons, safety and convenience in that order. In my opinion the bulkheads really help the boat feel more solid, more small yacht like, etc. The bulkheads field tested nicely and now SCAMP 's I build all have the bulkheads and as you folks now know the new plan update will refelct the bulkheads. On the fwd face of the bulkhead will be scribe or cut out marks for builders who wish tyo stick with the arch opening.
The footwell is an excellent change and will be as specified (dimensions) by me during our meeting (Brandon, Josh and me). I suggest sticking with the proven dimensions.
The manual is being updated. A note on the manual. SCAMP's are now built radically different from the method in the original manual. I have had the pleasure of instructing or building 77 SCAMP's to date and along the way have learned more than a few tricks and short cuts to make the build easier. In addition to the changes noted in this thread I believe we also tweaked the CNC cut file in nine different spots making for an even better kit. Each of these were minor tweaks I discovered aloing the way.
The manual was an excellent first pass by Simeon years ago and now once updated should be quite useful. Good to have a guy like Simeon on the case. Thanks Sim!

Re: New Mrk II Scamp Kit
Thanks for the update Howard. A couple more questions.
First, is there an anticipated release date for the updated manual?
Second, for the footwell, is there anything that is being done to beef up the area or are builders simply cutting a hole in the floor? I ask because I am wondering about the long-term effect on the joints to the bulkheads since all pressure when standing in the area will be pulling away from the joint. I know that when on the water this should be mitigated by the upward pressure of the water but when on land or trailer, this seems to be a weak spot. Am I overthinking the risk?

Timo, that is a beautiful bulkhead. I'm a huge fan of the fuller cut bulkhead and will be using this approach when building Hagoth.
