SCAMP #434 Underway in Port Moody, BC

Post by Bluster »

Picked up kit #434 in Port Townsend in November and in January I started the SCAMP build in my rather cramped garage/boat shop.

This is my second plywood/epoxy build my first being a Chebacco 20' from plans. The quality of this kit and the jump start it gives in the build just impresses me to no end.

Big thanks to this forum and the Argobuilder and Building Hagoth blogs (as well as others) for the great inspiration and building tips. Great resources!

Here is a link to my very humble little SCAMP building and future adventuring blog:

Cheers!

Hey Randy,

Looks great. I agree that the kit really gives you a big jump start. Also I think it must be a lot easier gluing up with the tabs that align the parts. I am building from plans. Enjoying it but sometimes wish I had the kit.

Congratulations on starting a SCAMP Randy!

I looked through your blog, Nice work on the boat so far and also on the blog. I am looking forward to seeing the boat come together.

Hi Randy,

Looks great. I have not started building. I purchased plans #337 then got sidetracked by life for a while.

I love the little yellow triangles. I can think of many instances were they would have been very useful. Where did you get them?

Greg.

um never mind, after casually searching the internet for a couple of days I finally found them! They are called Painter's Pyramids and can be purchased from Lowes, Menards and Home Depot.

Now I feel really stupid.

Hey Greg. Sorry for late reply. I picked up these little pyramids at Lee Valley Tools years ago and found them to be super handy for epoxying both sides of parts in one session.

April and May build progress report is now up on my blog.

Steady progress with no big issues.
So impressed with the quality and precision of this kit! I have made some little personal touches but nothing too radical.
Thanks again to all the SCAMP forum contributors and SCAMP bloggers!

This is a pic of my port seat access hatch.
I had originally intended to put this hatch on the seat top but while fiddling around discovered it fits on the seat face between the foot well and seat filler board trims. Very pleased with this idea as it gives great access and also keeps the seat tops nice and intact. Due to the integrated seat front - centreboard trunk this obviously would not work on the starboard side.

Love that idea. What size hatch did you use?
