I have plan set No 33, and still in the planning stage.

Due to back damage and sciatica, brought on when leaning unsupported over ply sheets to mark out frames and then later marking out panel shapes when making a lug sail, I really need to start with a kit. So I am working with a UK CNC specialist to cut the first kit in the UK. With Josh's help this also means kits for SCAMP will be available for other UK builders.

We are working on final details such as hatch cut outs and hope to cut a kit soon.

Of course, like many of you, the biggest problem to starting is clearing the decks of current projects, house maintenance and walking the dogs!

It would be nice to hear how you are all getting on.

Choosing ply, making space, finishing outstanding jobs. Just choosing ply can be confusing I find. Some marine ply I recently looked at was inferior to a cheaper gaboon WBP plywood. I would also like to go more Eco by using high quality Finnish Birch ply but feel the extra 30% weight over gaboon would be too much.

I read somewhere that only about 1 in 10 sets of plans gets built. With two kits built and Mike Monies two boats that's 1 in 10 already. Perhaps by helping each other with all these decisions and build queries we can beat that ratio.

I have a feeling that if the complete package were available ( i mean building manual with photos, spars, sails, and a construction video) we would be talking 100s of plans sold by now. I mean, people are still ordering and building Weekenders, which certainly pale design and performance-wise to Scamp. With the complete package and a slight sales push you could see a landslide growth boom here !

A super building manual written by Simeon is "finished".
Spars - wooden spars are drawn and alloy spars are now fully specified.
Sail - choice of local sailmaker, home build from a SailCut4 layout, and a very exciting global sailmaker as supplier in the pipeline.
Construction video? Not sure about that.

So, perhaps "a slight sales push" is next thing?

How is it that there is not one mention of SCAMP in the June issue of Small Craft Advisor, not even a single ad for the kit. In fact, the kit isn't even listed in the store! It would be nice to have a SCAMP column in the magazine for building tips, cruising stories and the alike. And at least show the kit in the store.

An Everglades Challenge recap written by our heroes aboard SCAMP—complete with two sidebar articles on sailing SCAMP and the modifications made—appears in issue #70 which was just shipped. The ad for the plan/kit is back in this issue as well. A regular "Travels with SCAMP" column is in the works, as are several other SCAMP features.

Fear not, in the long run we're much more likely to make you sick of reading about SCAMP than to have you wishing for more. —Eds
