Well, we finally got a chance to weigh SCA's prototype SCAMP that we launched
Nov 11, 20.
Hopefully Mike Monies will chime in with a weight for his ultraply build of the
Red & Blue SCAMPs if he has any recorded weights yet.
That goes for Dan Phy (SCAMP #6) too, as well as anyone else who has launched
We weighed SCAMP using a truck scale, on trailer without rig or rudder/tiller,
and she was basically empty. Then we subtracted the trailer weight.
FYI, our centerboard on this build was laminated out of cedar with 20 pounds of
lead inserted. Then covered with 2 layers of FG cloth (3 layers for leading edge
and tip). This was not a kit "foil"
Plywood used for the kit build was 9mm & 6mm Okoume
Wood for cleats/carlins/gunwales etc. was Yellow Cedar (Alaskan)
Iroko was used for skeg shoes and backing plates for mounting hardware
6 oz FG cloth (E-type) used on bottom up to and including the garboard plank as
well as the cabin top and centerboard. Structural joints etc were reinforced
with FG tape (6-oz)
All wood had 3 coats of epoxy and then any painted surfaces had 2 coats of
Pettit Easypoxy paint.
And the answer is: 400 lbs.
Cheers,
Simeon

SCAMP hull weight
The smaller the boat the bigger the adventure.

Re: SCAMP hull weight
Mike will weigh his Scamp as soon as possible. He is busy repairing the Red Scamp and repainting her before Sail Oklahoma! and John Welsfords' arrival next week. He sanded off almost all he original seven coats of red paint and started over afresh with the correct gray tinted undercoat where he went wrong in the beginning
She should look nice and shiny when he finishes and have all her dings and scrapes repaired. Of course, I told John Welsford he would probably have to sail her with sticky paint on the seats.
Later! Jackie Monies (for Mike)

Re: SCAMP hull weight
She'll also be quite a few pounds lighter, I'm sure
Tell Mike I'm only tongue-in-cheek needling him. I'm so impressed with all he accomplishes and likewise with your amazing string of on-going work. The local energy company would do well to figure out how they could put a meter on your household that would feed some of your surplus electrons back on to the grid.
Seriously, after Sail Oklahoma! will be more than soon enough.
Stay safe and sane,
Simeon
