Re: #70 - an amateur kit build
Finally getting back at #70 after an eventful summer. Great to see so many boats hitting the water this summer, even if many of them started well after I did. Hopefully there are a few slow folks like me or new starts that can still benefit from all this.
Took up road cycling in a big way this spring and sprung for a new 14 lb carbon bike in June. Since I was now looking very cool, I had to try and keep up with the young guys. Managed to stretch all my back muscles in the wrong way by mid July so walking upright was a bit ouchy to say the least. Still sore by late August when shipped out to Austria and the Czech Republic for touring including about 400k on a bike. At one point the road tour ended up on a moderate level downhill dirt track in the rain. Stuck a front tire in a deep rut and launched over the bars adding neck pain to the mix. Could still feel my toes so could have been worse.
So finally back to normal and mobile again. Spent a couple of days in Port Townsend over Xmas. Hour and a half at the border, pouring rain all the way to Coopsville and the crossing was so rough that only loaded half the cars and still had waves breaking over the bow onto the car deck. Got to PT an hour late and they had not had a drop of rain. Next morning bright and sunny. Great little town for SCAMPS birthplace. Great restaurants and shopping, even had wine tasting at the tea shop. Picked up a sail from Josh while there and some Bronze bits from the Chandlery.
And on to the boat:

Making the cleat on the front of bulkhead 2 to support the deck. Note that I did not read the manual very carefully here. This piece should probably be made out of solid wood and be wider but I remembered that after it was epoxied in place so it will have to do.

I'm glad you're healing up and back to boatbuilding.
Thanks very much for doing such a good job of documenting your progress with all these great photos. It's very helpful for those of us who are following along behind you, and I refer to this thread frequently!

Handles for the hatches and centreboard cover
I wanted something inset in the hatch lids to give me a handle to lift them out. the little Sea Dog brass inset hatches were about $6 each. Tried it on the centreboard cover first. I think they look pretty good.

Re: #70 - an amateur kit build
Great to see you back on line "BC". We met in PT this Fall, and our boats are at about the same level of build, so it's good to see what you're coming up with now. I've "poached" quite a few of your ideas, and they've all worked out so far, and I'm finishing interior fillets in preparation for shooting the deck and interior. My exterior is all done and bottom painted, and I got the gasket installed, and today I'm cutting and dry fitting bits of brass half-oval for chafing gear on the house top, etc. I've drilled and dry fitted the cleats for the halyard and deck fittings, and will epoxy saturate the holes soon before painting. I'm sure I'll see you in the Spring, and happy building.
