Securing the mast

Post by jfhbc »

Build #584 is painted and I'm contemplating the rigging. Almost there. Wondering what the conventional wisdom is for securing the mast to the boat?

I thought the halyard and downhaul were used for the purpose, and that was it. But I was reading through the "rigging the SCAMP" part of the manual, and there suddenly is item 5 on page 75...
Seat the mast in the mast box and secure it in place using the through bolt and nut
I couldn't find anywhere else in the build instructions that mention anything about said through bolt. Searching through the archives is a bit of a challenge since "mast" is apparently a disregarded term in searches.

Is this a leftover from a previous version of the manual, or did I get this far into the build and miss all mentions of this bolt?

Gee, I never saw that item.
Anyway, I wouldn't bother. The downhaul does a fine job of keeping the mast in the boat.
