Re: Build #179 to start
Hey Bruce, it is looking good now...At first I though it was down under then I realized you only turned the boat over...ha ha, just joking!....I see you don't have any more problems with the Payson butt joints. If the joints are done rite they are I believe as strong as 9 to 1 angel cuts....I tried breaking some test wood before building my Scamp and I could not get a clean break on three test pieces. The wood would break if you keep bending. I even bent my side planks a little bit before installing on my boat to test for weak spots...I bent it only till I could hear popping but they held fast and to this day my boat is strong ""as they say as a rock".
You must have provided the beer to get all that help together on the same day. You will have to buy again to flip it back ...but sure you will not mind doing that.

Re: Build #179 to start
I've been working full time in a factory which has left me too tired to work on Romana. The work ran out last Friday so today, Sunday, i was back in the shed laying a bit of fibreglass on the garboard strakes. Here's a short video.

Preparing to roll Romana back onto her feet soon. Aiming to do the lift and roll by hand, with the help of some able bodied rowers. We routinely lift and roll boats, sometimes short handedly.

Romana is back on her feet and getting a little bit closer to the end, bit by little bit. Here's a quick video that shows the whole two minutes it took to roll her by hand with four people, with a little bit of before and after thrown in at either end to pad the video out as it took so little time.

Re: Build #179 to start
I'm making sure I haven't thrown anything out in the time I've been building Romana. It will be three years this october, according to the first posts on this thread. Today I laid out the decks to see how much trimming will be needed, once I get the carlins in. The cedar foredeck panel has become all dusty and spotty but at least it's still there. Most things are here in the shed somewhere

Re: Build #179 to start
The weather has been atrocious here lately and i need to do some epoxying. To while away some of the time I started to play with tents. I've inherited some used tents and scrounged some flexible poles, and I've discovered that the fly from a two person 'dome' style tent makes a very roomy space out of the cockpit.
This would have to be a fair-weather solution only. I can't seeing it standing up to any kind of wind. However, with simple sockets in the gunwales and a handful of attachment points under the gunwales, the whole boat is covered. Two long access doors and two small vents give a variety of ventilation options. I think it's worth having a closer look at this later on when Romana is past her sea trials and taking me on overnighters.

The sole and doubler are in, glued and screwed. Filleting to be done over the next couple of days and the seat tops are going on at the same time.
