I've named my SCAMP #156 "Miss Peggy" after my 98 year old mother. When she became the most elderly lady in our old neighborhood, kids respectfully and affectionately called her that. I felt it was much safer to name my boat after my mother, rather a girlfriend' Your mother, after all, will always be your mother!

This topic thread has been very enjoyable to read with all the stories that have been shared!

My Scamp, #358, is tentatively named “Lexicon”. I've been a Star Trek fan and originally wanted to adopt a starship name but I didn't want to be presumptuous and use a name that is also owned by a past or present naval ship (ie Lexington, Enterprise, etc.). Like most things sailing related, I know just enough to get myself in trouble and a sailboat name should not contribute. In a related note, calling out “Lexicon” in a distress call would be less embarrassing then some of the amazingly goofy names I've seen at the local marinas.

Argh,

#349 will be called "Argo". As my name is Jason, I think it's fitting to sail an Argo. Though the builder of the first Argo was, I believe, Argos. Also, unlike Jason of the Argonauts, I hope not to fall asleep under my Argo and be killed by its keel falling down on me.

Shiver me timbers,

Jason

Kit build #140 will go into the water sometime this summer, so it's time to start working on a name! Starting with the June 2014 compilation, I've added others names posted to this thread since then and come up with the following list. Are there others that are already or are intended to be in use?

I'm still not sure if I'll be building a scamp or buying something else yet but I do know my next boat will be named Thin Space. A former pastor at my church had a sailboat and talked about sailing on Lake Champlain in one of her sermons. She described the lake as a thin space, that is, where the space between the earthly and the divine was very thin. I know all you sailors can relate to that.
