SCAMP OB Motor Mount Questions

Post by Bluster »

Nearing the completion of my SCAMP and now thinking about motor mounts for Honda 2.3 hp OB. It seems like the choice is between the fixed but removable Duckworks stainless steel mount and the Garelick hinged type (that can be removable with optional mount plate).

Does the fixed version allow enough clearance to tilt the leg clear of the water?

Removable is important because I will not always want to have the motor along.

These motors have the tiller/throttle on the left side (facing forward) so I am wondering if this makes more ergonomic sense to mount the motor on the starboard side of the transom so tiller/throttle is closer to the centre line and boat tiller? Or does this matter?

I would really appreciate and welcome any insight or thoughts on this.

Thanks!
Randy

Before buying a Garelick be sure to lay your hands on one and try the ergonomics of the lifting handle and movement. Garelick's are netorious for being difficult to raise/lower.

Hey all,

I am shopping for on OB motor mount as well and am also stuck between the Garelick & the Duckworks fixed one.

Bluster - what one did you end up getting?

Others - any POV on what one would be best?

Thanks!

So sorry for the late reply!

I ended up getting the Duckworks ss removable motor mount and am very pleased with it. Ended up mounting on the starboard side so motor controls would be more mid line of the boat and reachable from either seat. I did not use extra ply for backing because I had installed this on the port side during the build. In the end I just used large ss fender washers and 1/4 bolts. The bracket spans the seat tops with all the epoxy gussets etc. so seems strong. So far no cracks or damage.
Bought a 2 hp long shaft Honda and it works a charm on this set up.

Check out my Blog as there are some pics on this set up.

Cheers,
Randy
