Marty - will you be doing a write-up of your experiences in the 2014 Everglades Challenge? I watched the 'FBG' spot tracker icon all through the week, rooting for you as you made your way to the finish at Key Largo. I would love to hear details of the trip - what worked well, what challenges you faced. Were you under sail the whole way? Thanks - Dave

Watertribe allows no motors aboard any of the competing boats, not even stored in a locker, so yes, under sail or human propulsion with oars. I bet we will see an article about this in an upcoming SCA magazine-LOL. Much better ending than the "stuck in the mud in the middle of the bay" song and dance!
Rooted for you all the way Marty and I love your boat's name, Fat Bottom Girl. You are a clever namer of boats!
Love, Jackie Monies- The Red Scamp

Re: #168 is launched
Hi everyone! Sorry I have not given any updates sooner. Trying to focus on current responsibilities, but must admit, my mind keeps drifting back to the EC. It's been a process to get back to normal.
Anyway, the EC has been an amazing experience, and I am thrilled that I got to share it with my son! A shocking part of the experience has been the support we received from people all over the country! People we had never even met! On day three we again did not have much wind and were quite frustrated with our lack of progress. Through text my wife realized our frustration and started telling me about all the support that was on the web. It was a huge lift, so thank you to all you fellow small craft sailors!
Jackie, you are correct, I think Josh is going to include a bit about our experience in the SCA. I have been putting together some notes of our experience for him. Also, all that stuck in the mud stuff, on Friday before the launch we heard a lot about the mud, but we also heard how great they were doing before getting stuck. On top of that, in some strange way that whole story really helped inspire us to attempt the EC. So please tell Mike thank you for blazing the trail.
Several people have asked for a summary of how we prepared/modifications we made to prepare for the EC. There was not a lot, but I will post the changes we did make in the next couple of days.
Another recurring question has been did we really tow another boat 23 miles into Key Largo. Yes we did! It was an awesome experience! There were moments I was not sure which boat was towing which!
Thanks again for all your support!

Well I can see some of the other sailors have a good since of humor....You must be brave to name a boat Flat Bottom Girl.....No one ever ask me about the name of my SCAMP on this forum. Since last year I have had so much fun with her name...and the girls love it....even though a little shy about it. Over all I still get a-lot of giggles.
I really had a hard time coming up with a name but I like what finally came about. Moon-I Magic is the name of my Scamp. It is spelled the English way..... not in the Philippine language but the pronunciation of it is the same as in the Philippine language. The locals don't realize the differences till you say this out loud. Then it is hilarious to see there faces. Do you give up? Well it is part of a women's anatomy. Need I say more. Now the Magic word is just that... Magic. I have had great fun with that name and no one has been offended.
