Fellow Scampers,
My question is regarding graphite epoxy and UV rays.
I'm getting ready to install my deck and am contemplating how I will finish the under deck area and carlins.
Can I apply graphite epoxy under the deck as a finish, or is it thought that this area must be painted? It will almost never get direct sunlight, but it will receive a lot of bounce lighting I suppose. Your thoughts?

Re: Graphite Epoxy and UV Rays
Hi Brent
Curious why you are considering graphite in epoxy for the areas mentioned below? Seems unnecessary and would make for a very dark space.
Paint over epoxy is best or you can just leave a clear epoxy finish in areas where there is no direct sunlight. It is however a good idea to paint the inside of the boat a light color to help in finding items below in low light.
Hope this helps.

Howard,
I am considering graphite epoxy only for the underneath side of the deck. It just seems like it will be a hard place to paint. Hopefully, this is more clear now.

Re: Graphite Epoxy and UV Rays
Hi Brent
Graphite would certainly work but the graphite content would be unnecessary as it's ideal application is for making a hard slick surface, the bottom etc. You may want to consider an epoxy pigment. Not sure what brand of epoxy you are using, WEST for example sells a pigment additive in 2 colors . You can also choose your color by adding tempera paint powder, works just fine.
Another option is to tack the deck down and with a pencil outline the areas to be painted, pull the deck off and paint those areas.........this might be too much hassle though. I did this method on my boat in a number of places and it works well.
Hope this helps.
