Never expected this in South Puget Sound ... yesterday a group of Long-beaked Common Dolphins played around SWALLOW.

They are magnificent creatures. I would see them in the St John's River in Jacksonville all the time. Never saw any about 30 miles down river while sailing. That would have been a treat. I was standing on a dock once at an apartment complex I lived at on Cedar Creek about 5 miles down river. They were playing around the dock and one came up right next to the dock and I put my hand down and was able to rub along its back. It was like rubbing an inflated tire!
While in the Navy we would see them all the time pacing the ship. They were quite fast and usually outran us. Sometimes they would come right along side and dive under the bow and play in the bow wave. Once they were just cruising with us and someone brought out a camera. I swear they knew what the camera was for because they started cavorting around, diving under the ship, diving over each other and really putting on a show.
Once, when a pod was following us we turned the sonar on and you could hear them "talking" to each other.
Smart creatures.
Excellent video by the way and I see they were doing exactly the same as they were doing around our ship.
