Sail Oklahoma 2014 October 8-13

Post by Monies »

First call for pre-registration signup for Sail Oklahoma which will be October 8-13 this year. Preregistration helps us know which boats and people are coming and helps with planning. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/

We have a great group of guest designers attending with John Welsford of New Zealand, Richard Woods of Canada, Dale Gentry and Jim Michalak from America. We have invited others that have not yet confirmed but it is looking to be another great demonstrations, lectures, discussions and sailing.

John Welsford will be teaching a hands on all day class on fiber glass and epoxy just ahead of Sail OK beginning and there will be others I feel that will be limited in participation as well. As soon as we get definite dates and subjects of classes, we will post them.

We hope that a lot of the Scamps will be able to come for this, along with any boats by Welsford, Woods, Gentry and Michalak!

Add Michael Storer of Australia, Ken Simpson, and Graham Byrnes to the list of those planning to come present programs and have fun. Tom Pamperin will do a "Jagular" reading and lead a writing for publication workshop which we hope Dick Herman will be joining with "A Boat Called Scamp".

Dave Gentry will teach a 3 day Family Boat Building class to build a skin on frame kid a yak of his design and kits. Go to http://www.GentryCustomBoats.com/FBB2.html to sign up for the limited size class.

For classes with John Welsford go to http://www.duckworksbbs.com/classes/welsford/ and for classes with Richard Woods go to http://www.duckworksbbs.com/classes/woods/

Programs with Graham Byrnes, Michael Storer. Jim Michalak and Ken Nichols are not limited in sizes or participation and don't require registering.

Kelly McGuire of Redfish Island Records will present a concert for us on Saturday night, October 11. Go to http://www.redfishislandsrecords.com to see Kelly's schedule.

There is more but I'll do another post later!

As always, Sail Oklahoma 2014 is going on. We have such a great group of boats and programs this year, I hope anyone reading this will consider coming and joining us. E-mail us at m_monies@yahoo.com if you need information or go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/

I am going to try to attach a schedule of events to this e-mail or you can write me directly and we will send you one. We keep adding stuff, so even the latest schedule may not have it all on the list! Wouldn't attach, so e-mail for a copy sent to you!

For those interested in REALLY small micro cruiser boats, we have a just added surprise. We will have Matt Layden, designer of the Paradox and other tiny boats here along with a Paradox built by Lezlie Henson and Sean Mulligan, who just completed the Texas 200 in his boat "Scout". We would love to have more than one Paradox, so should you own one, please contact us about perhaps coming.

Sean and Lezlie will be doing a program for us on building and sailing Paradox. Matt is flying in but we are looking for someone to pick up and trailer some of his other designs here to Oklahoma from Florida.

Matt Layden is of course the fantastic designer and builder of tiny boats who has completed both the Everglades Challenge and the Florida Challenge in them multiple times. He is known as "Wizard" on Watertribe for good reason.

Just a reminder for those who have been unable to attend a Scamp Camp with John Welsford, we have two opportunities to take a hands on class with John, one at Sail OK 2014 and one at the new plyWooden Boat Festival in Port, Aransas, TX.

Go to http://www.duckworksbbs.com/classes/index.htm to sign up for either class, which are limited to only 10 students.

Both classes include all materials and supplies, are hands on and also include lunch and two coffee break snacks per day.

Richard Woods of multi-hull and other fame has arrived and is in a log cabin down the highway from me, along with a pack of bass fishermen, and Michael Storer has made it from the Philippines to East Texas safely and will be enroute here early next week. John Welsford will arrive on Tuesday in Tulsa and may have already left New Zealand?

There are even more designers and builders leaving Canada, upstate Washington, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas...... more British citizens than this part of Oklahoma may have ever seen. This has become a true national event and actually international. Plus a lot of fun!

It is not too late to think about driving or flying here. A boat is not even necessary to have fun, people are great about loaning or taking others out in their crafts and just going to programs is such a treat!

Contact us at m_monies@yahoo.com or at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/ for more information or go to the Small Craft Advisor blog or Duckworks for more information.
