The Log of "Dauntless" Entry 10

Tonight  Friday 6/19, we find ourselves in Poet's Cove Marina, Bedwell Harbor, South Pender Island, Canada. Good internet coverage today, so here's an update from the last couple of days:

After laying over at Friday Harbor we sailed to Garrison Bay on the West side of San Juan Island. We sailed over the top of San Juan Island between it and Speiden Island, then passing by Roche Harbor before motoring through Mosquito Pass and into Garrison Bay. The anchorage was beautiful and weather sunny and warm. Most crews went ashore and some, including us, hiked to the top of Mt. Young for a panoramic view of the Haro Straight.

On Thursday morning the plan was to leave Garrison Bay between 9 and 10 am for the sail around Turn Point on Stuart Island and into Prevost Harbor. Some of the first boats out to the Haro Straight saw fog to the west and decided to wait a bit for it to clear, others pushed on. The fog to the west lifted and after a short while the rest of the group headed out of Garrison for Prevost.  The boats that delayed departure, including us, got a rough ride after entering the Haro Straight from Mosquito Pass. We were on a deep broad reach to downwind run. I had elected to carry a fairly large headsail since we wouldn't have to work to windward.
