A sliding Gunter is a fantastic rig and as Sim has stated the rig offers shorter spars. Reefing is easy and efficiency remains high after reefing. I am curious about your aft deck. Interested to know why you incorporated it into your build? I hope you enjoy your boat. SCAMP's are excellent little bo...

Gene I'll toss out a statement and guess or two. 1. Not that many have come up for sale. In my estimation no more than any other class of boat. Why have so many Scamps changed hands/ been sold after only a few seasons (or less) of ownership? Understanding what it takes to build a Scamp, or any boat,...

I have just arrived in Little Current Ontario after a one week North Channel fleet cruise and have read your note about the mast issue. Let's talk by phone tomorrow morning. I may have a solution. Shoot off an email and let me know if you are free to talk.

I sometimes sail without water ballast. The boat is lighter, more dinghy like, a bit tippier and theoretically faster, certainly in light air.

Mike Do it. I conceived of the footwell and haven't looked back. Many boats like Dereks have footwells now. Ergonomics and lower CG is why I came up with the idea in the first place and I can't think of two better reasons to have one. Everyone I know of who has built one in or retro fitted a footwel...

Sounds like you have a complete boat. If so this tip isn't helpful, perhaps for others building a spar. When I build hollow birds mouth spars I loosely bunch up aluminum foil and place it inside the mast before final closure. This has been tested and lets show the spar itself becomes an effective ra...

I think you misunderstand the photo. My boat is at a dock, there were potential boat wakes, I went ashore for a coffee and temporarily lashed the tiller. I do this sometimes as a quick helm centering technique. My sailing grounds are protected 60 acre to 150 acre inland lakes. My concept of a tiller...

Asa note. I wouldn't use it as a tiller tamer. I just happen to have my tiller tied center in the photo using the rope traveler. Your setup looks like the solution, especially after doing research into the cost and availability of curved track traveler. I am still in the making little bits of wood f...

Yes, #2 and other SCAMP's I have built and am currently building for others. I've seen online, many suggested approaches to single line reefing arrangement. The dangling strings have got to go! Before I start my experimentation, I thought I'd ask if anyone is using a single line reefing arrangement ...

Greg I wouldn't bother with installed a curved track traveler. I went with a simple adjustable rope traveler and it works great. I have used this on other SCAMP's I have built and will use on two I am currently building. You can see it in the photo below. Note this is on SCAMP #2, she is rigged diff...
