The PDF charts and BookletCharts are very useful and can be printed out at home. I'm still trying to figure out the best and least expensive version of Canadian charts. The Marine Atlases for sale from the NWMC Chandlery http://shop.woodenboatchandlery.org/Pro ... tCode=8388 and http://shop.woodenboatchandlery.org/Pro ... tCode=8555 are good for planning but, in my opinion, you'll need better detail than they provide for the trip north.
