SCAMP Kit and Plan Pricing

Post by Editors »

Here's the information, as seen in our latest web newsletter:

Our SCAMP protype 11' 11" cruiser is nearing completion. Among other unique features, SCAMP sports an offset centerboard, massive flotation from sealed seats and stowage cabin, a water ballast tank holding 173 pounds of water, an after cabin "veranda" that functions like a hard dodger, and a flat bottom and skegs for beaching.

* Updated CNC kit price is $2,300 for the base kit, which consists all plywood parts (hull panels, bulkheads, decks, cabin, coamings, seats, rudder stock, bottom, etc) cut from 6mm and 9mm Okoume plywood, plus a custom jig. Hull panels (planks) arrive precisely pre-beveled for quick, accurate installation. Epoxy, hardware, the minimal amount of solid timber required, and shipping are not included.

Pre-shaped centerboard and rudder (18mm Okoume halves) are available as an additional Foil Package for $325.00*.

Will purchase of a kit include either plans or a building manual or both? Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

A detailed building manual is being assembled right now. Not sure yet exactly when it will be ready. In the interim we're shipping a complete set of plans with each kit. We also hope this forum will supplement to answer some construction questions, etc. between builders at various stages.

Hi Guys,

Might I inquire if the building manual is completed yet ? Also do you plan on offering a complete kit including hardware, spars, sails.......the works ??
thanks,

Hi Mike,

For the most part, yes, the manual is done. It's about 90 pages thus far and includes dozens of close-up photos, tips, etc. However we're still planning to add quite a bit more to the manual, as it doesn't yet include later chapters on fitting out, rigging, etc. (although the basics are already included in the plans). And we're still planning on customizing the look and layout of the manual some.

The bottom line is that there is presently more than enough info to get a builder where they need to go, but we're still putting the finishing touches on. Anyone presently building SCAMP who needs early pages can ask and we'll provide a PDF, etc.

I would be interested in a boat building class with Scamp kit per attendee(s) as the project, kind of like another outfit is doing at the Maritime Center/ Wooden Boats in Port Townsend. (My alternative, which I probably need to do anyway is building a pole barn to build the kit at home.)

Hi Jesse,

We're about 2/3 of the way through the final draft. This version went through several additional edits and will have lots of larger photos, etc.

Hoping to have it ready around the first of the year.

Best,

If the plans are bought first - can the price of the plans be deducted from a kit purchase later on?

Yes, the plans price is deducted from an eventual kit purchase.—Eds
