Mid boon sheeting helps prevent the boom riding up when sailing downwind. But a simple vang run from just above the mast-base at a 45° angle to the boom is better.

Make a bridle that attaches to either corner of the deck near the transon and use a double-block to ride back and forth. Fancier is a pair of cleats so you can pull the mainsheet attachment to windward (them's racin' tactics).

You can also just run it to a block at the rudderhead. But make sure you first have a means of locking down a lift-off rudder. ;-)

I have a boom vang on the Lusty Slogger but I have never used it. On Cherokee Lake when the winds hit 5 kts they put out storm warnings! It they ever hit 6 they would probably call out the Coast Guard!!!

I also have a jiffy reefing system on the Old Girl that has never been used either for the same reason. I was practicing one day and someone asked me what that was for.

No, I need to learn how to use the boom vang.
